Set in Stone - Building America’s New Generation of Arts Facilities: 1994-2008

Rising populations

Rising populations and higher average levels of education and income help explain why some cities built more than others.

A Quick Overview

Five years of nationwide research … on one double-sided sheet.

Our goal for this project is to assist people involved in the planning and management of cultural building projects. The study’s materials provide information that can be used to help guide decision-making before and during the construction period of an arts facility. The Quick Overview (PDF) summarizes the highlights of the study and puts them at the fingertips of the organizations and communities that pursue building projects. The facts presented in the Overview can help guide the conversations of boards of directors, staff leadership, donors, and civic leaders toward contemplating the multiple factors that influence successful outcomes.
