“Creative City Chicago”
In 2014, DCASE, the Joyce Foundation, and the Cultural Policy Center hosted a series of discussions with members of the Chicago arts community to envision Chicago as a creative city in 2050. Our goal was to develop a crowd-sourced research agenda—asking, what do we need to know now in order to position Chicago as a global cultural city of the 22nd century? Betty Farrell from the CPC reports on the themes generated in that community-based project.
“Creative Placemaking: What We’ve Learned, and Looking Forward”
In creative placemaking, arts, city, and community partners are enlivening neighborhoods and diversifying urban economies. Ann Markusen ponders the urban missions of arts and culture, how to make offerings and engagement more equitable and diverse, what we know about the location preferences of artists, arts organizations and arts participants, and where city arts and cultural policymaking is headed over the next decade.
