Letter from the Editors

The Cultural Policy Center is pleased to present the first issue of a new online publication for the cultural sector. The Digest identifies important academic research that is often inaccessible, due to paywalls or jargon, and presents it in summary form for a broad audience of scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.

Our immediate goal for The Digest is to make scholarly research more useful outside academia. Long-term, we hope The Digest also informs future research agendas by highlighting important trends and providing a shared reference point for both scholars and practitioners.

You will notice two bylines in this first set of articles. Gregory Surh and Catherine Gibbons are University of Chicago graduate students and Cultural Policy Center research assistants who not only wrote the summaries, but were instrumental in figuring out where and how to search for the best articles to summarize. We are delighted to have students in a leading role — it combines the Cultural Policy Center's goal of developing the next generation of cultural leaders with our interest in furthering the impact of research.

Links to new issues of The Digest will be emailed every academic quarter (fall, winter, and spring) along with our workshop schedules. If you are not already subscribed to our email list, you can do so here.

As always, we are interested in your feedback, both to individual articles and to this project as a whole. Send us a message by email, Facebook, or Twitter.

Thanks for reading.
