Rebecca Parker is an artist, arts administrator, and educator

Rebecca Parker discusses community building through the arts in both her professional capacity as an arts administrator and in her personal practice as an artist. Parker will explore how her creative practice has informed her work as an arts administrator, most notably in her efforts at the Arts Council of Winston-Salem in North Carolina. A small but artistically rich city, Winston-Salem is exploring the potential of an arts-based economy to, in part, offset the diminished presence, and related philanthropic initiatives, of historically sustaining industries. Parker was critical in designing strategic opportunities to help realize this objective including creating plans for and commissioning public art; connecting the community's many cultural institutions and artists to share resources, streamline efforts, and redefine their social capital; and facilitating fundraising initiatives.

Rebecca Parker is an artist, arts administrator, and educator. She has been involved in the arts field for over 10 years working for museums, galleries, universities, and state art agencies. Throughout her career, she has organized dynamic exhibitions, commissioned public art, managed grant programs, and taught ceramics to students of all ages. Prior to moving to Chicago she was the Funded Partner and Grants Manager at the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. She is currently a practicing artist in Chicago.www.rebeccaparkerproject.com.
