Betty Farrell

At the CPC, Farrell has organized public symposia, research presentations, and a weekly workshop series on topics of broad relevance to the cultural community. She teaches a yearly graduate research practicum at the Harris School of Public Policy Studies that immerses students in real-world cultural policy projects dealing with some of the most pressing issues affecting the cultural sector.


Jennifer Novak-Leonard

Research Manager

Jennifer Novak-Leonard specializes in evaluation and research — specifically innovative measurement systems to understand cultural participation, and the personal and public value derived from those experiences. Her work lies at the nexus between research, policy and practice.


Michelle Olson

Consultant

Michelle Olson has been consulting with the Cultural Policy Center for the past year on long-term planning and strategy, and program development. She has worked extensively in the areas of higher education, community development, workforce development and training, and the creative industry.  Michelle has a BA from Lake Forest College, an MA from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. 


Gwendolyn Rugg

Gwendolyn Rugg received her MA in the Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, where she focused on cultural policy, exploring best practices in public art policy in cities across the US in her master’s thesis.  She received her BA in art history from the University of Notre Dame, and prior to graduate school she worked in exhibitions, curation, and public programing in cultural institutions around Chicago and abroad. At the Cultural Policy Center she assists with research projects, plans conferences and workshops, manages the Center’s publication, The Digest, and provides administrative support.

Norman Bradburn

Bradburn is the Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the faculties of the University of Chicago’s Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies, Department of Psychology, Booth School of Business and the College and a Senior Fellow at NORC at the University of Chicago. He is a former provost of the University (1984-1989), chairman of the Department of Behavioral Sciences (1973-1979), and associate dean of the Division of the Social Sciences (1971-1973). From 2000-2004 he was the Assistant Director for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences at the National Science Foundation. Associated with NORC since 1961, he has been director of NORC and president of its Board of Trustees.


D. Carroll Joynes

Senior Fellow

Carroll Joynes co-founded the Cultural Policy Center and served as executive director for its first ten years. With Norman Bradburn, he is co-principal investigator of Set in Stone, a large-scale study of cultural building in the United States. He also has served as a trustee of several cultural organizations in Chicago.


Lawrence Rothfield

Lawrence Rothfield is Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago. He co-founded the Cultural Policy Center with Carroll Joynes and served for ten years as its faculty director. He also served as director (and co-founder, with Gerald Graff) of the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities.

Peter Linett

Peter Linett is a partner at Slover Linett Strategies, a Chicago-based audience research and evaluation firm serving museums, arts organizations, and educational institutions.


Nick Rabkin

Former Associate

Nick Rabkin is an associate of the Cultural Policy Center and a member of the consulting team that created the new Chicago Cultural Plan.


Joanna Woronkowicz

Former Associate

Joanna is an assistant professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in Bloomington. Previously she served as the Senior Research Officer at the National Endowment for the Arts. Her research interests include cultural policy and nonprofit management, particularly as they relate to cultural facility development and urban policy. She received her Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. Joanna blogs about cultural policy at  cultureispolicy.com.
